The Perfect 5-Day Curaçao Itinerary (Relaxation, Beaches, and a Little Adventure)
If you’re planning a trip to Curaçao and wondering how to spend your time, I’ve got you covered. After months of planning (you can read exactly how I planned our trip here), we spent five incredible days exploring the island, soaking up the sunshine, and discovering why Curaçao might be one of the Caribbean’s most underrated destinations.
Our trip was a mix of relaxation, exploring Willemstad, beach hopping, and a little island adventure, and honestly…it felt like the perfect balance.
If you’re looking for a Curaçao itinerary that combines relaxation with just enough sightseeing, this is exactly what we did – and what I’d recommend.

Day 1: Arrival in Curaçao and First Taste of Island Life

We visited Curaçao during the last week of February, which turned out to be a fantastic time to go. The weather was perfect – sunny, warm, and breezy almost every day.
We flew American Airlines from Boston to Curaçao with a quick connection in Miami, which made the travel day pretty easy. After landing, we took a shared airport shuttle that we had booked ahead of time with our hotel reservation, and it was one of those small decisions that made arrival completely stress-free.
By the time we arrived at the Renaissance Wind Creek Resort around 4pm, we happened to be the last stop on the shuttle route, which turned out to be a bonus. Our driver gave us a quick tour of the area we were staying in and shared some great tips about where to eat and what to explore in Willemstad.
After an easy check-in, we dropped our bags in the room and headed straight for the pool and beach area.
One thing we were immediately happy about: we had booked the all-inclusive package, which turned out to be a great decision because Curaçao is not a cheap destination. Having meals and drinks included made it easy to relax and not worry about every cocktail or snack throughout the day.
Our room had a “city view,” which wasn’t anything particularly scenic, but honestly it didn’t matter at all. We barely spent any time in the room anyway.
That first evening we:
- Grabbed a drink at the pool
- Had dinner at our soon-to-be favorite spot, It’s 5 O’Clock Somewhere
- And called it an early night after a long travel day
Not a bad way to start a Caribbean vacation.
Not everything went according to plan leading up to our trip – flight changes and a giant snow storm meant we weren’t sure we’d even get out. That’s why, we always travel with insurance, especially for international trips. It’s one of those things you hope you don’t need, but you’re really glad to have if something goes wrong.

Day 2: Brunch, Pool Time, and Exploring Willemstad

One of the best parts of vacation? Sleeping in without guilt.
We started Sunday slowly and made our way to Nautilus, the resort’s breakfast spot, for brunch.
It quickly became our favorite breakfast of the trip.
And I have to give a special shout-out to Martha, the egg chef, who made incredible omelets every morning.
After brunch, we grabbed our beach gear and headed down to the pool and beach area for a full day of relaxing.
One thing that pleasantly surprised us was that we never had to fight for lounge chairs. If you’ve ever stayed at a busy resort, you know how rare that is. There were always plenty of spots available, which made the whole experience feel way more relaxed.
The day basically looked like this:
- Sun
- Swimming
- Drinks from the bar
- Repeat
Later in the afternoon, we decided to walk into Willemstad for happy hour and to explore a little.
Our hotel was only about a 5-minute walk from the city, which made it incredibly easy to pop back and forth between relaxing at the resort and exploring town.
That night we decided to have dinner outside the resort, mainly because finding gluten-free vegetarian options at the hotel was a little tricky.
We walked over to Fort Rif, which turned out to be a fantastic place to watch the sunset.
After dinner, we wandered back to It’s 5 O’Clock Somewhere for drinks and dessert before calling it a night.
Day 3: Rooftop Views and Willemstad at Night

Monday was another slow, sunny pool day – which honestly was exactly what we wanted out of this trip.
Sometimes the best itinerary includes doing absolutely nothing for a while.
But that evening we headed back into Willemstad, and this time we got to see one of the coolest sights in the city.
The Queen Emma Pontoon Bridge lit up at night.
If you’ve seen photos of Curaçao, you’ve probably seen the colorful buildings along the waterfront – and seeing them glowing at night is even better in person.
We grabbed drinks at a rooftop bar overlooking the harbor, which gave us an amazing view of the city lights and the water.
Then we had another fantastic dinner in town before walking across the bridge and exploring the streets on the other side.
After wandering for a bit, we headed back to the hotel for – you guessed it – another stop at It’s 5 O’Clock Somewhere before bed.
Day 4: Shopping, Pancakes, and a Night at the Casino

On Tuesday we decided to explore Willemstad during the daytime, which has a totally different vibe than it does at night.
We spent the morning:
- Browsing shops
- Walking along the waterfront
- Watching the pontoon bridge swing open for the massive cruise ships
It’s actually really cool to watch – and the bridge literally moves to let ships pass through the harbor.
For lunch, we stopped at Pancake Sensation inside Fort Rif, which turned out to be a great find.
After lunch it was back to the resort for (you guessed it) more pool time.
That evening we decided to try something different.
The hotel had given us vouchers for the Wind Creek Casino, so we figured we’d check it out even though we’re definitely not big gamblers.
But somehow we ended up at a table with a really fun group of people, and before we knew it three hours had flown by.
It ended up being one of the most unexpectedly fun nights of the trip.
We wrapped up the evening with dinner back at Nautilus before heading to bed.
Day 5: Renting a Car and Beach Hopping Around Curaçao

Wednesday was our big adventure day.
We decided to rent a car and explore more of the island, which I highly recommend doing if you have the chance.
One small lesson we learned: reserve your rental car earlier in the week.
By the time we tried to book, most rentals were already taken. Thankfully, the amazing staff at our hotel helped us connect with a local rental company and got us set up for the day.
At 9am we were picked up at the hotel and brought to our rental, and then we were off to explore.
Driving around Curaçao was actually really easy, and the roads were simple to navigate.
We spent the day:
- Visiting different beaches
- Driving along the coast
- Stopping whenever something looked interesting
At one point we spotted something on the map labeled “flamingo viewing area.”
Naturally, we had to investigate.
And sure enough… there were actual wild flamingos just hanging out.
It was one of those totally unplanned travel moments that ends up being a highlight of the trip.

After a full day of beach hopping, sun, and wind (Curaçao can be very breezy, especially on the side of the island where we stayed), we headed back to the resort to relax by the pool.
That evening we walked back into Willemstad to visit the oldest rum bar in the city.
Before we could even order, the bartender insisted we take a shot of green rum, which apparently is a bit of a tradition there.
Between the music, the lively crowd, and the drinks, it ended up being a really fun stop.
We wandered back through some of the more local streets of the city, popped back into the casino for a bit, and finished the night with dinner back at It’s 5 O’Clock Somewhere.
If you’re planning to explore beyond Willemstad, I highly recommend renting a car for at least one day – just make sure you book it early because they do sell out.
If you’re not comfortable renting a car, there are also plenty of guided island tours that take you to beaches and popular spots without needing to drive.
Day 6: One Last Morning in Paradise

Thursday morning came way too fast.
We took our time packing and enjoyed one last slow breakfast at Nautilus before checking out.
One great perk of the resort was that even after checkout we were still allowed to use the pool and beach area, which meant we got a few more hours of sunshine before leaving.
When it was time to head to the airport, our transfer picked us up and brought us back.
At the airport I was able to use the Priority Pass lounge access that comes with my Chase Sapphire Reserve®, which was an awesome way to end the trip.
Instead of waiting at the gate, we relaxed in the lounge with snacks, drinks, and comfortable seating before boarding our flight home.
And yes…we left already talking about when we might come back.
Final Thoughts: Is Curaçao Worth Visiting?

After five days on the island, the answer for us was absolutely yes.
What we loved most about Curaçao:
- The friendly and welcoming people
- The perfect weather
- The mix of relaxation and adventure
- The colorful charm of Willemstad
And while the island isn’t the cheapest Caribbean destination, choosing the all-inclusive package at our resort made a huge difference. It allowed us to relax and enjoy the trip without constantly thinking about prices every time we ordered food or drinks.
For us, it ended up being the perfect Caribbean escape.
