Ultimate London Itinerary With Teens (11 Fun & Family-Friendly Things You Can’t Miss)

Traveling to London with teens doesn’t have to mean eye-rolls and boredom. With the right mix of history, fun, and Instagram-worthy stops, London can be the trip your whole family loves. After testing it out with our own two picky teenagers, we pulled together the ultimate London itinerary with teens – 11 can’t-miss experiences that blend adventure, culture, and downtime. From climbing domes to spotting street performers, these are the stops that made our trip unforgettable (and meltdown-free).

1. Climb St. Paul’s Cathedral Dome for the Best Views in London With Teens

If your teens can handle a little cardio, the climb to the top of St. Paul’s is unforgettable. The 528 steps lead to breathtaking panoramic views of London – perfect for Instagram-worthy photos.

Tip: You can go early in the morning to avoid crowds, or you can add this to the end of your day and go before they close. They allow access to the top up to a half hour before they close. Fewer people and it made that stair climb feel like we earned it. Book tickets here for skip-the-line access.

2. Take a Hop-On-Hop-Off Bus Tour – The Easiest Way to See London With Teens

This is an easy way to see all the main sights without tiring out your teens’ feet. Our favorites? Catching the views of Big Ben, the London Eye, and Buckingham Palace from the top deck. Bonus: Audio commentary makes it educational without being boring.

Pro tip: Download a city map and plan which stops to hop off for lunch or shopping.

Parent tip: We booked this for the first day when everyone was going to be exhausted after a red eye the night before. It meant fewer walking miles and a chance for them to just chill as we rode around. Best move we made!

3. Explore the Churchill War Rooms for a History Lesson Teens Actually Enjoy

Step back in time and experience WWII history in a way teens actually enjoy. This is one of our favorites. The underground rooms are fascinating, and interactive displays make it memorable. We spent hours walking around and everyone had a favorite part!

Insider tip: Look for the secret messages and the “map room” – our teens couldn’t get enough.

4. See the Crown Jewels at the Tower of London

The Tower is iconic, and seeing the Crown Jewels up close never gets old. Book a guided Yeoman Warder tour – they’re hilarious and full of stories that keep teens entertained.

If you’re booking in advance, check out Tower of London tickets here.

5. Snap Photos on Tower Bridge (Yes, the Famous One!)

It’s more than a photo op – the glass floor walkway is a thrill for teens (and adults!) who aren’t afraid of heights.

Bonus: Check out the engine rooms for a peek at Victorian engineering.

Tower Bridge is a must do in London with teens.

6. Watch (or Attempt to Watch) the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace

Tourists lined up for the changing of the guard ceremony at Buckingham Palace.

It’s classic London, even if the timing isn’t perfect. Currently, the guard changing ceremony happens on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 11 am.

Pro Tip: People get here early for this so unless you’re willing to stand for a good hour, you’re unlikely to get a front row seat. But, if you walk further down The Mall, you can actually watch (and follow) the horses and guards on their way to the ceremony! Up close and personal!

7. Stroll Covent Garden for Street Performers, Shops, and Teen-Approved Energy

From quirky street performers to candy shops and trendy boutiques, Covent Garden is a feast for the senses. Teens will love the market stalls, and parents can grab a coffee or traditional English snack.

Pro tip: Don’t miss the Apple Market for unique souvenirs.

8. Walk London’s Southbank at Sunset for Food, Views, and Teen-Friendly Vibes

This riverside walk is packed with energy – performers, pop-up food stalls, and views of the London Eye and Tate Modern. Grab fish & chips or an ice cream and let the teens roam a bit. Sunset photos are guaranteed to wow your social feeds.

Bonus Tip: Stay in Southbank for a less touristy feel with great food and attractions nearby. We LOVED our stay at Sea Containers London. Read more about our full trip in my 7 Day Guide to London and Paris.

9. Take Quirky Photos at Madame Tussauds

Yes, it’s touristy, but teens love spotting their favorite celebrities and superheroes in wax form.

Pro Tip: Book tickets in advance to skip the line. Make it fun: challenge your teens to recreate poses with the figures.

10. Relax in Hyde Park

After a busy day of sightseeing, Hyde Park is perfect for stretching legs or even renting bikes or paddle boats. The Princess Diana Memorial Fountain is particularly calming, and teens will enjoy the open space to unwind.

Bonus: Our teens got us into the playground area (with the clean bathrooms!). They had fun playing and being kids while we got a minute to sit and freshen up!

11. End with a Cozy British Pub Dinner

Round out the day with comfort food in a traditional pub. Many have teen-friendly menus, so the whole family can enjoy classics like fish & chips or shepherd’s pie.

Bonus: Ask the staff for local secrets – our teens loved the story behind the historic decor!

Planning a London itinerary with teens doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Mix a little history, a lot of fun, and plenty of snack breaks, and you’ll have a trip everyone remembers (without the meltdowns). These 11 stops kept our family happy and on budget – and they’ll do the same for yours. If you’re combining London with Paris, check out my 7-Day London and Paris Itinerary With Teens.
